Types of notifications
Splashd sends push notifications to keep you connected. Here's what each type covers:
New messages: Sent when someone sends you a text message or photo in a conversation you're not currently viewing.
Voice notes: Notifies you when someone sends you a voice note in chat.
Incoming video calls: A real-time call notification when someone initiates a video call with you. These are always-on — you can't disable call alerts without also muting the conversation.
Taps: Notifies you when another user sends you a tap. These can be turned off independently if you receive too many.
Profile views: Notifies you when someone views your profile. Free users get a count; Splashd+ subscribers see the individual profiles. You can turn this off.
Private album requests: Sent when someone requests access to your private album. These are on by default and can be turned off.
System alerts: Includes moderation decisions on your photos, account security notices (login from a new device), and app update prompts. These cannot be turned off as they affect account safety.
Customising your notifications
You can turn most notification types on or off independently. Changes take effect immediately.
Go to Settings → Notifications.
Toggle individual notification types on or off. You'll see separate toggles for messages, taps, profile views, album requests, and promotional content.
For sound and vibration, tap any notification type to expand it. You can set sound on/off and vibration on/off for each type independently.
Quiet hours: Set a time window during which notifications are silenced. Tap Quiet hours in the Notifications screen to configure start and end times.
If you want to pause all notifications temporarily without adjusting individual settings, use Do Not Disturb on your phone. This silences everything from all apps at the OS level and doesn't affect your Splashd notification settings.
Push notification device settings
For Splashd notifications to arrive, your device needs to have push notifications enabled for the app at the OS level. Here's how to check:
iOS: Go to Settings → Notifications → Splashd. Make sure Allow Notifications is on. Enable Alerts, Badges, and Sounds as needed.
Android: Go to Settings → Apps → Splashd → Notifications. Enable notifications and check that they haven't been categorised as silent or blocked by your phone's battery optimisation.
If you denied notification permission when you first installed Splashd, you'll need to re-enable it through your phone's Settings — the app cannot re-request permission once denied.
After changing OS-level notification settings, force-quit Splashd and reopen it to ensure the changes take effect.
Check that your device has a working internet connection and that Splashd isn't being backgrounded/killed by battery saver mode. On Android, try adding Splashd to your battery optimisation exceptions list.
Muting individual conversations
You can mute a specific conversation without affecting notifications from everyone else. Muting silences push alerts for that conversation — messages still arrive, they just don't make noise.
In your inbox, long-press the conversation you want to mute.
Tap Mute. A muted icon appears next to the conversation in your inbox.
To unmute, long-press again and tap Unmute.
