Starting a conversation
All messaging on Splashd is completely free — no daily limits, no subscription required, no paywall on your inbox. You can message anyone on the app without needing to match first.
Open any profile from the grid, map, or search. Tap the Message button to open a new conversation.
Type your message in the text field at the bottom. Tap the send arrow to send. The other person receives a push notification (if they've allowed it).
To find your conversations later, tap the Chats tab. Conversations are sorted by most recent activity.
A message that references something specific from someone's profile — a photo, their bio, or a shared tag — gets a response far more often than a simple "hey". Keep it short and genuine. A concrete question or observation is a much better opener than a compliment alone.
Voice notes
Voice notes are one of Splashd's standout features. Hearing someone's voice adds a layer of connection that text alone can't match. Sending one is quick and free.
In any conversation, tap the microphone icon to the left of the text field.
Hold to record (up to 2 minutes). Release to send — or swipe left to cancel without sending.
The recipient can listen at 1× or 1.5× speed. Playback is silent by default — they'll need to tap play.
Video calls
One-to-one video calls are free, with no time limit. Both users must accept before the call connects — you can't be surprised by an unexpected video window.
In any conversation, tap the video camera icon in the top right corner.
The other person receives a call notification. Both users tap Accept for the call to connect.
During the call you can mute your mic, flip to the front/rear camera, or end the call using the on-screen controls.
If either user declines or doesn't respond within 30 seconds, the call ends and a missed-call notification appears in the chat thread.
Sharing photos in chat
You can share photos directly in any conversation — from your camera roll, taken live, or from your private album.
Tap the photo icon in the chat toolbar to open your camera roll, or tap the camera to take a new photo.
To share from your private album, tap the album icon in the toolbar and select the photo you want to share.
Before sending, you can toggle View once — the photo disappears after the recipient views it. Use this for anything you don't want saved.
Splashd blocks screenshots on photos sent with View once enabled. Screenshots in regular chat are permitted but not notified.
Taps
Not ready to write a message? Send a Tap — a quick, wordless expression of interest. Taps are free and take one touch. The recipient can tap back or start a full conversation.
From the grid, long-press on a profile tile and tap Tap. Or open a profile and tap the hand icon.
The other user receives a notification that you tapped them. Your profile appears in their Taps inbox.
To view your incoming taps, go to Chats → Taps.
Blocking, muting, and chat etiquette
Splashd is built on the expectation that everyone treats each other with basic respect. If someone isn't meeting that bar, you have straightforward tools to deal with it.
Block: From any profile, tap the three-dot menu (⋯) and select Block. Blocked users can't see your profile, send you messages, or find you in search. Blocking is immediate and silent — they won't be told.
Mute: Muting a conversation silences notifications without blocking the user. Long-press a conversation in your inbox and tap Mute. Their messages still arrive; they just don't make noise.
Delete conversation: Long-press a conversation and tap Delete to remove it from your inbox. This removes it on your end only — the other person's copy is not affected.
Report: If someone is abusive, sends unsolicited explicit content, or violates our Community Guidelines, use the three-dot menu → Report. Reports go to our moderation team who review within 24 hours (usually much faster).
Not getting a reply isn't a reason to send a follow-up message ten times. One or two messages is normal; anything beyond that without a response crosses into harassment. Splashd takes repeated unsolicited messaging seriously.
