MiamiFL
South Beach heat, circuit weekends, and the gayest main street in America.
Miamiat a glance.
Gay Miami is built on sun, sand, and circuit energy. South Beach has been a gay resort destination since the 1990s, an Art Deco grid of hotels and beach where the bar scene has consolidated but the parties have not. Wynwood adds the artier, younger queer side of the city. And about 45 minutes north, Wilton Manors stands as one of the most gay-dense cities in America, a whole town built around one LGBTQ+ main street.
The thing to understand about South Florida is that the scene has two centers. Miami Beach is the destination: the hotels, the beach, the circuit weekends like Winter Party that draw tens of thousands. Wilton Manors, up in Greater Fort Lauderdale, is the home base, where the gay community actually lives and Wilton Drive runs bar after bar after bar. Plan a trip and you will likely want both.
Open Splashd in South Florida and the grid spans South Beach, Wynwood, and Wilton Manors. Switch to the live map to see who just checked in at the bar or the pool deck. Flying in for Winter Party or Pride? Travel mode lets you scope the grid before you land. Messages, voice notes, and video calls are unlimited and free, with no paywall.

Every city has its own geography. Here is where the scene actually lives in Miami.
South Beach
Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive, Miami Beach
South Beach has been a gay resort destination for decades: a walkable grid of Art Deco hotels, sand, and sun where the scene now centers on a tight cluster of bars near Washington Avenue. The crowd is international, the beach near 12th Street is the historic gay stretch, and the hotel pool decks are their own kind of nightlife.

Best time to visit
Winter and spring are the peak: Winter Party in late February, Miami Beach Pride in April, and the most comfortable weather of the year. Summer is hot, humid, and stormy, though Stonewall Pride in June is worth the heat. Hurricane season runs August into October.
Where to stay
Stay in South Beach near Washington Avenue to walk to Twist, Palace, and the beach. Hotel Gaythering is the city's gay hotel, bar included. For the Wilton Manors scene, base yourself on or near Wilton Drive and leave the car parked all weekend.
Getting around
Miami needs a car or rideshare, since the scene is spread across two counties. South Beach itself is walkable once you arrive. Wilton Manors is about 45 minutes north of Miami Beach, and the Brightline train links the two metros if you would rather not drive.
Good to know
South Beach bars like Twist rarely charge cover, while circuit events ticket well ahead and sell out. Florida's statewide LGBTQ+ protections are limited, but Miami-Dade and Broward counties have strong local ordinances and long-established gay communities.
